4. Review: All about turtles word search

12歳のAさんにtarget wordsを全部読んでもらい、habitatの意味を知っているかと問うと「place animal lives」と答えました。えらいですね。「Is there any word you don’t understand?」と問うと「reptile」と言うので、「It’s a group of animals. We are human. We are mammals. Turtles are reptiles.」と説明を始めると「Ah! I know! Snakes! Crocodiles!」と理解しました。動物の分類を知っていても、それを英語で知らないだけなので、factsを扱うアクティビティは子どもの理解と成長を助けます。そして、この対話を聞いている他の子どもたちも一人ひとりのレベルで理解してくれていると思います。

5. Read: How the Turtle Got Its Shell 

この絵本は南アフリカのfableで、キーワードはboastです。

”I’m the best runner!” boasted Klo.を読んだAさんにboastedの意味を確認すると「It’s the same as said.」と答えました。さらに「Can you boast about yourself?」と問うと「I’m a good swimmer.」と答えました。ここで、彩子先生にも入ってもらってboastの意味を全員に理解させました。彩子先生は「I’m a good cook. I’m powerful.」などたくさんboast例を話してくれました。

6. Is it a turtle or a tortoise? Next week we’ll learn differences between turtles and tortoises.

7: Sing: Where’s Ayako? この歌は、名前のスペリングを歌います。本日は途中からでも必ず参加する子どもが「You. I want to see you every week.」と言ってくれたので感激しました。「Ayako sensei, it’s embarrassing to sing my own name. Would you sing?」とお願いして歌ってもらいました。
